i believe in two possibilities-
1) it is possible that the flames were added later with optical effects,
2) a slight watery mist to the left suggests the alcohol theory (although i think it would take a bit more than friction to ignite)
i do believe there might have been alcohol or some kind of flammable liquid on it and when the drummer hit it caused friction and was able to ignite the flammable liquid that is my theory anyway.
everclear on the cymbal or someouther very high proof alcohol, if the lights were out you could see the flame, but since it burns so clean you only see it when hit because the oxygen mixes
